About Us

Suffolk Gundog Club was formed in 1978 by a small group of enthusiastic gundog owners. Their aim was to provide a club which would help to further enhance the quality of gundogs and their performance in the shooting field, as well as to run working tests and field trials under Kennel Club regulations and approval.

There are now over 500 members from across the country and abroad.

The Club caters for all varieties of Retriever as well as working Spaniels and runs a number of field trials during the shooting season, working tests and training classes during the Spring and Summer months.  The classes are aimed at puppy, novice and open dogs.

Local members of the Club have enjoyed success over the years at all levels of national competition, making up many dogs to Field Trial Champion status and also winning or being placed in the prestigious IGL Championship. Many members are also on the Kennel Club ‘A’ and ‘B’ Panel for Judges and some have also had the honour of being invited to be a Judge at the IGL Championship.

New and inexperienced handlers are always welcome to apply to join the Club and young handlers are encouraged to develop their skills. There have been invitations from the Kennel Club on a number of occasions to take a team of young handlers to demonstrate at the 3 day CLA Game Fair, where the youngsters have given some excellent displays with their dogs.

The Club takes an active part in what is happening in the County, giving demonstrations at the Suffolk Schools Farm Fair and both the Suffolk and South Suffolk Show as well as other charity events during the Spring and Summer months.
